1. Morocco

Morocco is undoubtedly a magical and colorful experience in terms of everything ranging from food to music to the next shot, with the attractive bonus of being relatively inexpensive to self-drive!

Highlights of My Moroccan Adventure:

Marrakech: Shopping within the medina in a narrow street with numerous merchants and vegetable and spice sellers and standing in front of the palaces was remarkable. In the Jemaa el-Fna square, there were great performers telling stories, musicians, and barbecued food stands. Morocco is non middle east Arab country which located in Africa subcontinent.

Atlas Mountains:

The other option was to drive through the Atlas Mountains near Marrakech, which is only two hours away. The trails specifically provided great views while traveling, and the time spent with the Berber people showed me how Moroccans used to live.

Sahara Desert:

The only trip that would be incomplete without a desert could be a Morocco trip. I decided to have relatively cheap entertainment by taking a camel ride and spending a night in the camp with an amazing view of the desert, stars, and sky.

2. Turkey

Turkey is one of the countries that combines Oriental and European cultures. Such aspects can be discovered, and having a low budget can be fun. For instance, perhaps choosing the Berlin-Istanbul flight, I could pay as little as €60 and was equally astonished at the cheap offers for traveling within Turkey.

Highlights of My Turkish Journey:

Istanbul:

Istanbul has a great history. Istanbul is also called by another name, the city of mosques. There are many mosques and places for tourists, like the incredible historical Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, and the Grand Bazaar. A great range of nuts, Kurdish kebabs, vegetable kebabs, and baklava were remarkably cheap.

Cappadocia:

This must have been one of the most unique parts of the trip; in Cappadocia, one could see peculiar shapes of rocks and go on a hot air balloon ride. I slept in a basic cave like a tourist, and it was very enchanting and affordable.

Ephesus:

It was a historical city with so many almost intact structures, and it was interesting to visit Izmir in a day. With long, neat pedestrian alleys paved in marble, I had the feeling that time had stood still.

Budget tips:

Food at Lokantas (local eateries) is cheap and tasty, so ensure that you get to taste the local cuisine. For traveling within cities or towns, hire buses, as these are economical, stylish, and comfortable.

3. Portugal

Although the country is in Europe, Portugal is one of the cheapest destinations to tour for sun, sea, historic cities, and spirits. This means that there is a cheap flight ticket (€40) for traveling from London to Lisbon, which can therefore be categorized as a cheap flight holiday destination.

Memorable Events During My Journey in Portugal:

Lisbon:

The capital city still has its secrets; there are its intimate avenues, trams, and magnificent observation decks. I had an opportunity to go out at night to the place and stroll through the most vibrant areas, the Bairro Alto district, and taste the iconic pastéis de nata of Lisbon.

Porto:

After sampling port wine, it was fascinating to watch the river and, in general, the architectural marvel that is Porto. Well, I had to invest myself in an affordable river cruise on the Douro River, which I thought was the best part of my trip.

Algarve:

Recreation was also perfect in the area since the Algarve has good beaches and cliffs to explore as well. I slept in a general bunkhouse in Lagos and wished it would be good to start with the coastal trails as well as the caves in the region.

4. Poland

Poland is known for its reasonable prices and is certainly worth visiting due to its history and beautiful sights. The culinary and language chapter was written during my visit to Poland, when I spent €35 on a low-cost flight from Milan to Kraków and found that everything was very cheap.

Highlights of My Polish Experience:

Kraków:

The medieval architecture, as well as the active pace of Krakow’s Old Town, had charmed me. I saw the beautiful Royal Castle and went on a day tour to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Holocaust Memorial and Museum, which was sobering. Warsaw, the capital city of Poland, gives old and new attractions places for tour. I enjoyed the new building part of the Old Town area, the Warsaw Uprising Gallery, and the district of Praga.

Zakopane:

Zakopane is located in Tatra Mountains. I hiked in summer and skied in winter, all for a song compared to what I expected it would cost me in Western Europe.

Budget Tips:

Since prices are low and this is truly a Polish restaurant, typical Polish food can be consumed here, and it is recommended to visit milk bars, or ‘bar mleczny’. For economical and fast transportation between cities and provinces, use trains and buses.

5. Bulgaria

Bulgaria is somehow not frequently visited by tourists, but it has great potential for being a low-cost country with a great history, beautiful scenery, and a great culture. Before getting to Sofia, I just flew to Vienna for €30, which I think is one of the cheapest destinations ever.

Highlights of My Bulgarian Adventure:

Sofia:

Roman, Ottoman, and a tinge of Soviet architectural designs made this capital city quite interesting to me. I especially liked the freedom that was given to me to visit the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and Vitosha Boulevard for shopping.

Plovdiv:

Plovdiv was particularly memorable because it is one of the oldest cities in Europe; the remains of history found in the city were matched by the thriving of art in the present.  The district of Old Town, which is described by houses painted in bright colors and cobblestone streets, was very dramatic.

Rila Monastery:

Rila Monastery was one of the most unique adventures, which included a day journey to the site registered under the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Budget Tips:

Sleep in inexpensive guest houses or hostels offering very cheap accommodation and mostly breakfast. Travel by bus, as it can be accessed by the broad network of buses available in the country at a relatively low fee.

Conclusion:

Further, budget travel does not cause one to miss out on experiences. For being budget-friendly, vibrant in the culture they have to present, and filled with thrilling experiences, it is worth considering visiting five countries: Morocco, Turkey, Portugal, Poland, and Bulgaria. The energetic spice-selling square of Marrakech, the historical ruins of Ephesus, the picturesque alleys of Lisbon, the spirited art district of Plovdiv—every place presents its characteristic. When you budget yourself appropriately in terms of airline tickets, lodging, food, and local transport, many places all over the world can be enjoyed to the fullest on a low budget. Whatever your interest, whether cultural, geographic, or just plain adventure, these places are very wholesome when it comes to value for money when you want to travel in 2024. So let’s get your suitcase, pick up your travel papers, and prepare to visit these very cheap destinations. Safe travels!
